CASE STUDY 08 / RESILIENCE & HANDOVER

Building recovery into application infrastructure.

App-V infrastructure with automated replication across regions, backed by documentation and operational knowledge transfer.

ENVIRONMENT

Large financial services organisation

MY ROLE

Infrastructure implementation, automation and handover

01 / THE CHALLENGE

Understanding the problem.

Application delivery infrastructure formed part of the wider enterprise virtual desktop migration. It needed a disaster-recovery approach and an operational handover that the receiving team could use.

  2. 02Automated regional replication
  3. 03Operational handover

02 / MY INVESTIGATION

Following the evidence.

My work connected the App-V implementation with its cross-region recovery requirements. The infrastructure and the supporting operational knowledge both needed to be part of the delivery.

I treated documentation and knowledge transfer as part of the implementation, so the managed service provider received the design context alongside the infrastructure.

03 / IMPLEMENTATION

Putting the work into practice.

  1. 01

Built the App-V infrastructure used in the application-delivery environment.

  2. 02

Automated cross-region replication to support disaster recovery.

  3. 03

Updated the design documentation and delivered knowledge transfer to the managed service provider.

04 / OUTCOME & EVIDENCE

What the work delivered.

Implemented App-V infrastructure and automated cross-region replication, then transferred the design and operating knowledge to the managed service provider.

Implemented infrastructure

App-V infrastructure with automated replication between regions.

Operational handover

Documented design and knowledge transfer to the team responsible for ongoing operations.

05 / ENGINEERING PERSPECTIVE

What I take forward.

Automation is more useful when the next engineer can understand and operate it. Recovery design, documentation and handover belong in the same delivery conversation.
