CASE STUDY 05 / API INTEGRATION & REPORTING

Keeping operational reporting working through a cloud migration.

Building modules for the Citrix Monitor Service API, using OData queries to support the modernisation of legacy information-extraction scripts.

01 / THE CHALLENGE

Understanding the problem.

The customer relied on existing scripts to extract and review information from the Citrix environment. Moving to Citrix Cloud also meant adapting that reporting capability so the customer could continue using it autonomously.

  1. 01Legacy reporting scripts
  2. 02Monitor Service API + OData
  3. 03Autonomous information review

02 / MY INVESTIGATION

Following the evidence.

I treated operational reporting as a migration dependency in its own right. The environment could change platforms, but the customer still needed access to the information their existing scripts had supported.

The Citrix Monitor Service API provided the interface for the new modules. I used OData queries to extract information through that interface and support the transition of the reporting scripts to Citrix Cloud.

03 / IMPLEMENTATION

Putting the work into practice.

  1. 01

Developed modules that connected to the Citrix Monitor Service API.

  2. 02

Used OData queries to extract the information needed for reporting and review.

  3. 03

Built the modules to support rewriting the customer's legacy scripts for the Citrix Cloud environment and preserve their ability to obtain information independently.

04 / OUTCOME & EVIDENCE

What the work delivered.

Delivered Citrix Cloud-compatible reporting modules to support the customer's ongoing, autonomous extraction and review of operational information.

API integration

Modules connecting to the Citrix Monitor Service API.

Query-based extraction

OData queries used to retrieve information for customer reporting.

Migration support

Cloud-compatible modules supporting the modernisation of existing scripts and autonomous information review.

05 / ENGINEERING PERSPECTIVE

What I take forward.

Reporting scripts can be an important part of how a customer operates a platform. Including those dependencies in a migration helps preserve the customer's ability to understand and manage the environment after the move.
